Profile
In 1981 I moved to Sydney from Adelaide and thought a new hobby would be a good way to meet people. Little did I know that first patchwork and quilting class would turn into a lifetime obsession.
I have attended workshops and seminars with Australian and overseas tutors, many topics I found to be wonderful while others, held no interest for me. It was at a workshop with Jinny Beyer that changed my sewing practice. I was motivated by her words “find something you enjoy and perfect it”. I realized my passion was hand quilting and from then on, I gave myself the freedom to sit and quilt for hours.
My dear friend Narelle Grieve was a major influence for my quilting. She was an exceptional quilter and my aim was to quilt as well as her. I finished quilting Narelle’s last quilt, that quilt won a major award at the Sydney Quilt Show the year following Narelle’s death. I like to think my stitches matched hers.
In 1983 I moved back to Adelaide and was on the steering committee to establish the South Australian Quilters Guild. I served on the committee as Exhibition Co-ordinator and President, I am now a life member of the SA Guild. A move back to Sydney in 1987 brought me back to the committee of QuiltNSW. I am Life Member of QuiltNSW having served on the committee twice as secretary and president.
I have been a member of the QuiltNSW quilt appraisal team since 2000 and in 2010 activated the national appraisal network. Quilt NSW provided me the opportunity to attend the USA quilt appraisal training in Paducah in 2008.
Over the past 15 years I have judged many regional group exhibitions, state exhibitions and the Best of Australia. Quilting has changed my life.
